Did you know that black people are more likely to die from melanoma - the deadliest form of skin cancer? It's true. It is deadlier because it is more likely to develop undetected. I have no idea why people still believe that we don't need sun protection, but we need it just like everyone else.
I'm partial to my staples like Neutrogena's Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock and the uber-lux Anthelios SX. Here are a few more to try in creams, sprays and yes, even a mineral powder.
Sephora Sun Safety Kit ($67 Value) $22.00.
Clarins Sun Control Stick SPF 30, $24.50. Murad Waterproof Sunblock SPF 30 (8 oz) $30.00
. Neutrogena Fresh Cooling Body Mist Sunblock, SPF 30, $9.99.
Neutrogena Sunblock Lotion SPF 45, $14.39.
Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral SPF 30 (0.32 oz) $30.00.

Nichelle,
As a black Latina, I am hardcore about SPF. I've had people make comments like: I didn't know black people can burn or I didn't know skin cancer affect black skin. I've told people that the sun is not the same one as it was 10-20-30 years ago. With Global Warming we are all at risk.
I was having a conversation with friends who asked me if I believed there were cases of skin cancer in Africa because of the melanin in the skin. I said, that I had no doubt there were a lot of cases because some of these people spend HOURS in the hot and burning sun, but between famine and AIDS who has time to think about skin cancer!
