Erykah Badu is set to become the face of Tom Ford's forthcoming fragrance. I just read it in the New York Times profile on Erykah, The Mind of a One-Woman Multitude (very entertaining), but apparently it was reported first at Vogue UK.
I've done some checking and no one seems to know the name of the new fragrance BUT... and this is a big BUT - Erykah herself has already revealed the name! My pal Najwa Moses got the scoop during a brief Q&A with Erykah a few days ago and posted it. Erykah told Najwa that she really feels good about the fragrance, that Tom is a very good friend of hers and that he is a "passionate artist " about his craft.
Watch Najwa's video below to hear the name of the fragrance - and Erykah's answers about her style choices and fashion icons.
I don't step into politics on 55 Secret Street (I save it for my other online home) but I will share these limited edition t-shirts inspired by the Democratic contenders. If you're a John McCain fan, let me apologize in advance because I didn't see any interesting and/or creative McCain gear but, you never know, maybe Angie Harmon will get on it.
The Hillary Clinton t-shirt above was designed by Marc Jacobs. He also designed a shirt in 2004 for her Senatorial re-election campaign. The new shirt averages about $50 on eBay, but if you're in New York City, you can drop by Marc Jacobs boutique and pick one up for $38 - as long as you don't mind a large - and all of the proceeds will go to her campaign.
If you're all about Barack Obama, the "Progress" T-Shirt above sells for $25 and was designed by the famous graffiti artist Shepard Fairey, known for his "Obey Giant" street art campaign (Hey! That's two graffiti artists here in one week - a record for sure). All proceeds from the sales of
the shirts will go directly to creating more campaign t-shirts, posters, and stickers by
other artists in support of Obama's campaign.
