I have to confess, I had absolutely no interest in following anything at all leading up to the Britain's Royal Wedding. I can't say that I was "sick" of the coverage (even as I received a stream of daily press releases about it) because I just ignored.
As an 11-year-old in 1981, I had no choice but to get up at the crack of dawn if I wanted to watch Prince Charles make Lady Diana his Princess. As a 41-year-old in 2011, I slept through the wedding, confident that I could see the whole thing with the click of a mouse when I woke up at a decent hour. A "decent hour" turned out to be 11-ish as I test-drove the last of my OPI Shatter nail polishes and paid tribute to musical royalty, Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington, who was born on April 29, 1899, on Vintage Black Glamour.
Like many people, my first thought when I saw Princess Catherine was Grace Kelly: the lace applique, the narrowed waist, the billowing skirt. And the tiara, created by Cartier in 1936, also alluded to the late American princess. I thought it was absolutely stunning. Tasteful, but not boring. Elegant but not over-the-top.
Sarah Burton did a masterful job and I absolutely agree that the gown will stand the test of time, unlike Princess Diana's ultimate 80's confection.
The Alexander McQueen reception gown that she wore as Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, was also very beautiful.
But her sister Pippa's gown was still my favorite.
Then again, as I mentioned earlier, I am 41-years-old. When and if I get married, I'm going the Pippa route.
And I may even top it off with a fascinator!
I am resisting the urge to type a long, gleeful Twitter-esque hastag here, but suffice to say, I love Zara Phillips headgear. She is Prince William's cousin (the eldest daughter of Princess Anne).
Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice chose Valentino Haute Couture. There are 41,000 "likes" and counting for Princess Beatrice's Ridiculous Royal Wedding Hat and all I have to say to that is Really? Is her hat any more "ridiculous" than many of the other hats at the wedding? Please, I think the Queen of Soul would be proud. Heck, I am.
Victoria Beckham, unlike some celebrity designers, actually wore a dress of her own design! The Philip Treacy pillbox hat and custom Louboutins complimented her navy sheath perfectly. Oh, and yes, David Beckham looks splendid in his Ralph Lauren morning coat. Then again, when does David Beckham not look splendid?
Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, a television presenter in England also known as "TP-T" nearly stole the show with her electric blue fascinator. I am starting the countdown to her American reality show debut right now.
No fascinator for Samantha Cameron, the wife of the British Prime Minister, but she more than makes up for it with the gorgeous teal dress and orange scarf by Burberry.
Miriam Gonzalez Durantez, the wife of British Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, as another standout in the fascinator category.
Carole Middleton, the mother of the bride, kept it simple. And lovely.
I enjoyed it! I was up at 5am, and had a great time looking at the clothes. I wish I had someplace to wear hats and fascinators, though not all of them, I hasten to add. I loved Kate's dress, but I also liked Pippa's better.

And I wish I had someplace to wear those hats & fascinators too! I've seen a few on that level in church... but I'm talking about a party LOL!
