Dove enlisted an FBI sketch artist to draw women as they see themselves - and the way they are seen by complete strangers. The results were pretty interesting. Do you think your self-perception matches the way the world sees you?
Even though I have been using anti-aging products ever since I was in my twenties (I'm forty-ish now) I have been pretty cavalier about it lately. I've committed all of the standard sins: not enough sleep, not eating right and... not getting enough sleep. I have no wrinkles to speak of, but hydration has been a challenge for me like never before - especially with the cold, dry weather, so Kate Somerville's brand new 'RetAsphere' 2-in-1 Night Cream with Retinol was right on time. It's just the right texture: smooth and thick enough without feeling heavy. My skin is not very sensitive, so the retinol (backed up by seaweed extract and bio-derived hyaluronic acid) already has me on the road back to that familiar brightness I am used to seeing on my face in the morning. Now, if I can actually get some sleep...
Originally, I wanted the Moroccan Rose Otto Sugar Body Polish because I am so in love with the body oil. However, I am glad I allowed myself to be talked into trying REN's Guerande Salt Exfoliating Body Balm. This exfoliator is aptly named body balm (as opposed to scrub) because it leaves your skin very soft and moisturized enough to go without lotion (although I would only recommend this at night - you'll need something on your skin as the day goes on).
Cancer worries notwithstanding, my vanity has made me a regular sunscreen user for the better part of twenty years now. I have my staples, but I am always happy to try something new. I usually avoid any sunscreen that contains titanium dioxide (aka "black girl's kryptonite) but I was pleasantly surprised with the selection from MD SolarSciences. I was introduced to the brand and its creator, Dr. Bob Friedman, at a luncheon a few weeks ago, and I immediately took a liking to the smooth, non-greasy formulas that had the added bonus of not making my chocolate brown skin ashy. The secret (especially with the tinted formula) is to apply with tiny dots and rub in carefully and slowly with your fingertip. I followed with Bobbi Brown's new Extra Repair Foundation SPF 25 and was able to go out in broad daylight without the dreaded "mask" look. I've also been dabbing a little bit of the Mineral Screen Tinted Gel (below) on my hand and arm as I drive since the sun is showing signs of sticking around. Finally.
