The first lady has selected double-strand pearls and a sleek LBD by Michael Kors for her official White House portrait by Joyce N. Boghosian. And, once again, she has gone sleeveless to the delight - and chagrin - of some. The Chicago Tribune highlighted one such disgruntled reader:
"Does the lady not understand that these Big Speech Events are serious and important? Not a cocktail party?" e-mailed one Tribune reader, who said she scanned the crowd for other bare arms and spied none. "The season is winter. The occasion is business. Dress was wrong place and time."
Hmmm... "the lady" (not "first lady") who was born and raised in Chicago is not aware that "the season is winter." I wonder what that reader would have to say to this?
The New York Times found this picture from Bettman/Corbis of former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy at her husband's State of the Union address on January 14, 1963, also known as "the season of winter. "
Can you tell by now that I am fine with the sleeveless? What do you think? Do you think a sleeveless dress is too "informal" for an official portrait? Would short sleeves be better? Long sleeves?
Michelle has inspired me to get my arms ready for the spring and summer months. I am sure the Tribune reader has NOTHING negative to say about the Jackie O sleeveless picture.
