The Protector. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have designed a limited edition collection of jewelry for Asprey called The Protector, inspired by the snake. The collection also includes a $525 silver baby spoon with a serpent-shaped handle. All net proceeds will go to Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, a charity founded by Jolie that raises awareness and funds to educate child
victims of war, conflict and natural disasters. [WWD]
Church Girl. Michelle Williams, of Destiny's Child fame, did a very interesting and beautiful "Alter Ego" photo with photographer Derek Blanks. The photo illustrates how Michelle feels she is judged inside and outside of the church (she is also a gospel singer). [YBF] [Derek Blanks]
From Nairobi to Shenzhen. President Obama's brother Mark Obama Ndesandjo (I won't say "half" since they don't - I don't call my sister my "half-sister" either!) has released a semi-autobiographical novel, From Nairobi to Shenzhen, which touches on the strained relationship he had with their late father and his struggles with his multi-racial identity. His mother, like the president's mother, was a white American. [NPR's All Things Considered]
Long before Lady Gaga, Beyoncé or even Madge, there was Betty Davis. The first line of this article about 1970's rock diva Betty Davis says it all. Too bad the title ("Sleazy Listening") missed the mark. However, it was nice to learn that Light In The Attic Records is about to release some long lost albums from the ex-model (Ebony, Seventeen, Glamour) and former wife of Miles Davis (she introduced him to the music of her friends Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone) who had quite a musical career of her own. [The Moment]
I loved Michelle's alter ego shoot. I saw images of the prepping a few weeks back and I was a little fearful, but they came out really great. On my way to the moment to check out the article on Betty Davis. No clue who she is, but she looks fierce.
